Becoming B-Corp: A milestone, not the finish line

We are B-Corp certified. But more than a badge—it's a commitment. We've evolved over the past 30 years, adapting to meet new challenges. Now, we're embracing our most crucial transformation yet: sustainability.

Finding a better way

Like all businesses, we are evolving to become more sustainable. Over the past 30 years, we've transformed significantly—moving from print to digital, expanding from local to global, and transitioning from traditional office spaces to remote work. Each change brought challenges and opportunities, pushing us to rethink our strategies and refine how we operate. Now, we face our most critical transformation: embracing environmental and social responsibility.

Today, the world faces unprecedented challenges. News is filled with stories of extreme weather events and growing social inequalities, creating a sense of urgency. We operate in an economic climate that has pushed businesses and families to their limits. Although the best time to start this journey was 20 years ago, the next best time is now, and we must act.

Taking the first step

A key milestone in our sustainability journey is becoming B-Corp certified. The B-Corp framework has been essential in aligning our operations with our sustainability goals, offering a comprehensive baseline for assessing impact on workers, the community, the environment, customers, and governance. B-Corp is not just a badge but a rigorous standard requiring deep introspection and a commitment to improvement.

Through this process, we realised many of our informal sustainable practices needed to be formalised. Becoming a B-Corp has helped us structure and measure our efforts effectively. This has not only reinforced our commitment but has also provided a framework to ensure our actions are impactful.

Becoming part of the B-Hive

What excites us about B-Corp is joining a movement redefining business success to include people and the planet, not just profit. We believe businesses must work together with customers and communities to create a sustainable future for all.

A question we often encounter is why we choose to work with high-emitting industries such as energy, engineering, and construction companies. It’s a question we have seriously considered ourselves. We understand and respect the reasons why people turn away from high-emitting industries, and we completely recognise the importance of accountability and compensation. However, we believe supporting these industries to decarbonise is an essential part of the puzzle required to drive the large-scale sustainable development the world needs. Instead of excluding industries and businesses out of hand, we are happy to combine our expertise with their experience and infrastructure to help us all transition away from fossil fuels.

Our vision goes further

We see B-Corp certification as just the beginning. It sets a baseline, but our vision extends beyond compliance. We aim to push the boundaries of what business can achieve in terms of positive impact. Our strategy is rooted in our core values and aims to create a world where business is a force for good, without sacrificing the environment or social equity.

In the next 2-5 years, we aim to go further by reducing our carbon footprint, promoting diversity and inclusion, and engaging our teams to volunteer for causes they are passionate about. Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey, one that involves continuous improvement, not just ticking boxes.

We invite you to join us on this journey. This isn't just about our business—it's about a collective effort to create a sustainable future for generations to come.
